摘要：The article proposes an investigation of Romanian place names within the framework of cognitive linguistics. While both traditional theoretical linguistics and geographical studies have hardly ignored toponymy,the arrival of cognitive linguistics has provided the tools and tenets needed to explain the coinage of numerous Romanian place names through a new rational lens. Thus,the analysis reveals that metonymical cognitive processes underlie and motivate several classes of place names in Romanian.
