摘要:The interaction between economic growth and inflation has been analyzed in various studies based on different countries and time periods in the economy literature. Since shaping economy policies and outcomes they created, these two macroeconomic variables have led this issue keep its popularity in almost every period of time. A general assumption, which is widely accepted in economy literature, based on Philips curve, indicating that there is a positive relationship between these two variables become common until the 1980’s. This common view has lost its credibility in the following years and it was showed that,as a matter of fact, there is a negative interaction between those of two variables in the middle and long term periods. However,it would not be wrong to say that there is no consensus in the empirical studies on this issue. With regard to past trends, new advancements become evident, which support views, emerged after the 1980’s. High inflation,an acute historical problem in Turkey, and uncertainty coming along with inflation leading to decline in growth by discouraging investments are the main reasons of such an assasement .This paper tries toexamine the relationship between inflation and economic growth using cointegration and causality analyses with quarterly data covering the period of 1990-2005. Empirical results of this study hint that inflation is a variable which affects economic growth negatively.
