摘要：Belt wrestling was brought to Turkey by Crimean Turkish immigrants and has been done by them in the regions where they live. Belt wrestling has specific features and rules to be applied. In this study,the historical development of belt wrestling in Turkish sports culture beginning from its start in Turkey,its reach to Turkey and effects to the Turkish sport culture were analysed and the rules of belt wrestling are mentioned. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this study are to investigate the manners of application entirely,to review its rules basing on primary sources and to compare the traditional and official rules in order to put forward the differences between them. It is also aimed to reveal the unknown aspects of the belt wrestling and to make contributions to sports literature in terms of sports anthropology besides keeping the values of Turkish Belt Wrestling alive for the future generations. METHOD: Document research technique and interviews are used in the study as qualitative research designs. 47 semi structured andopen ended questions were asked in the interview forms which are prepared to gather qualitative data. Face to face interviews were written out as documents. In the analysis period,related literature search was done and pictures were taken and interviews were carried out in the areas where belt wrestling is still done. From the outcome of this work,selective and distinctive information were picked out and used in appropriate sections of the study. In this way,a practise of a comparison between the newly gathered data and the old data available was carried out in order to reinterpret the topic. CONCLUSION and DISCUSSION: Belt wrestling has started to be done in Turkey by the arrival of Crimean Turkish immigrants. It is seen that the traditional rules are mostly corresponding to the rules applied by Turkish Traditional Sports Federation in belt wrestling. It is also seen that in order to standardize them for international rules,some changes were done in the traditional rules in terms of wrestling time,heights,pairing,awards etc. It is thought that these alterations in the rules affect the traditional pattern of belt wrestling negatively and cause cultural deformation. For this reason,it is importantly advised for the Turkish Traditional Sports Federation to rearrange the rules applied in official belt wrestling according to the traditional rules in order to protect the traditional culture of it.
