  • 摘要:Carbohydrate (CHO) and fat are the dominant sources of energy for body at rest and during exercise. The preference of the substrate during physical activity depends mainly on the exercise intensity. Purpose: The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) and fat oxidation rate (MFO) in young adult men. METHOD: Forty-nine healthy young adult men that have different training status (aged 20.25±0.41 years) participated voluntarily in the present study. In the 24 hours prior to the exercise tests, subjects were instructed to abstain from strenuous exercise and fast for at least 10 hours before the experiment. Subjects were tested at the same time of day (09:00-11:00 a.m.) to minimize the effects of diurnal variation. After overnight fast, the subjects performed an exercise test to exhaustion on the cycle ergometer (Monark 839E),and expired gases were collected via facemask and analysed (Cosmed K4b2 portable metabolic system) for determination of MFO and VO2max. The subjects started pedaling at an external power output of 60 W. Subjects’ pedaling cadence was kept at 60 revolutions/min (rpm). Every 3.5 min,the power output was increased by 35 W until exhaustion. Fat oxidation rate during the exercise test was calculated according to the stoichiometric equations, assuming that the urinary nitrogen excretion rate was negligible (Frayn 1983). Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to evaluate correlations between MFO and VO2max. Statistical significance was set at a level of p < 0.05,and data were expressed as the means ± standard error of the mean. RESULTS: The average for age was 21.2±0.3,for body weight was 69.9±0.1,for body height was 178.3±0.5,for body mass index (BMI) was 22.2±0.3,for body fat percent was 11.3±0.4,for VO2max was 56.1±1.3 and for maximum heart rate was 193.9±1.0 in subjects. There was a positive correlation between MFO and the VO2max (r=0.41,p=0.00).Discussion: Several studies reported that trained individual have higher maximum fat oxidation rate than untrained individual. Exercise training increases fat oxidation during exercise and at rest. It is known that regular physical activity, especially endurance exercise training can cause an increase in the V02max.
