摘要:TV watching is one of the most relevant problems in the contemporary society. Numerous studies reveal that TV watching is associated with the higher levels of aggression, attention and social problems. One of protective factors against negative TV watching effects on the children’s maladjustment is parental monitoring. There are not sufficient studies about the relation between TV watching and children’s adjustment and parental monitoring in Lithuania. The aim of our study is to explore the quantitative and qualitative aspects of school-aged children’s TV watching and the relations to psychological adjustment of children. The participants of the study are 118 children (11 to 14 years old) and 83 parents. The questionnaire about duration of TV watching, parental monitoring and the favourite TV movies and show for children;the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, and the questionnaire on children’s TV watching and parental involvement and monitoring of TV watching for parents were used as methods in the study. Results show that TV watching duration and TV watching after the school and low parental monitoring are related to children’s maladjustment, especially to hyperactivity and social problems. TV watching duration also relates to the parental education and material well-being of the family. The mild positive and negative relations between children’s preferred types of TV movies and psychological adjustment are discussed.
