摘要：Violation of equal opportunities (discrimination),is understood as a differing treatment of persons under similar circumstances. Usually people are discriminated because of certain attributes that they are born with or gain during their lifetime,for example gender,race,sexual orientation,inability,age etc. One of the most common types of discrimination which is often not even considered as discrimination is age discrimination. It is a practical negative behavior of individuals or institutions towards a human because of his/her age. Age discrimination might be a problem to both young and older people when they seek employment,services,when resources are allocated or while participating in the community life. The article shortly discusses the definition of discrimination and the topicality of age discrimination. On the basis of complaints received by the equal opportunity ombudsman office,the distribution of complaints by the age and gender is analyzed. It also analyses factors that have affected discrimination and stereotypes as well as areas in which people usually feel discriminated.
