摘要:in equipment, sports medicine and conditioning not only propel modern tennis players to be more athletic and thus raise the importance of body size but also yield longer and successful participation in professional tennis. PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to determine the relations between ranking and age, experience, anthropometric features in professional male (M) and female (F) tennis players and to analyze the discrepancy between the players ranked within the first and second hundred. METHOD: The top 200 (data of 5 M and 12 F players could not be reached) ranked M and F players, regarding the 2016 year-end rankings, were included in the study. They were divided into two groups according to their rankings (1-100 and 101-200). Age,the age to start competing (ASC) and the duration of participation (DP) in professional tours (ATP/WTA),body height, and body mass of the players were obtained from the published official web pages (ITF,ATP,and WTA). Body Mass Index (BMI) and Reciprocal Ponderal Index (RPI) were calculated accordingly. RESULTS: Results revealed significant correlations between ranking and DP in ATP tours (r = -0.272),age (r = - 0.222),RPI (r = -0.162),body height (r = -0.147) in M players respectively. Results for F players indicated significant correlations between ranking and DP in WTA tours (r = -0.341),age (r = -0.288),and ASC in WTA tours (r = 0.209). Players in the first hundred are significantly older (M&F),have greater values in DP (M&F) and in RPI (M),have fewer values in ASC (F) and BMI (M) than their second hundred ranked counterparts. CONCLUSION: Results of the study suggest that, among the variables analyzed, experience in ATP/WTA tours and age are the most important factors which might influence the ranking of professional tennis players.
