摘要:What is the relation between brevity and experiment? Do short narrative texts particularly invite or facilitate experimentation? Or can a special connection between both be traced in twentieth-century and contemporary literature? In this introduction we explore these questions by looking at the formal and stylistic characteristics of short texts (condensation, fragmentation and ellipsis) and by investigating their specific publication contexts in terms of polytextuality, intermediality and hybridity. We draw on theoretical approaches to brevity in prose narratives as well as on concrete examples from the articles gathered in this special issue.
