摘要：This article presents an analysis of the subject position treatment system, shown in 91 personal letters from Bahia written by poorly educated country people between the years of 1906-2000. The sample was edited by Santiago (2012), who based on Marquilhas’s (2000) study, characterizes the writers as “unable”, that is, those who are in the early writing acquisition stage. In this respect, we aim at contributing to the Portuguese Language pronominal system mapping, describing the interchange of treatment forms in the second person speech adopting the representative corpus of the popular Brazilian Portuguese (PBP) variety, identifying the strategies that condition the use of treatment forms by writers through the Theory of Power and Solidarity (BROWN; GILMAN, 1960). Therefore, this research is in the field of sociohistorical Historical Linguistics (MATTOS E SILVA, 2008a), which regards to extralinguistic or social factors, the intralinguistic ones and to the variationist sociolinguistics approach analysis (WEINREICH; LABOV; HERZOG, 2006 [1968]; LABOV, 2008 [1972]). According to Lopes and Cavalcante (2011), as stated in Scherre et al. (2009; 2015), Brazilian Portuguese (BP) is composed of three subsystem treatments positioned as the subject: (I) você, (II) tu, (III) você – tu. The analyzed sample data revealed the use of the o/a senhor/a, vosmecê, você and tu treatment forms. However, the use of the exclusive treatment subsystem você was prominent in the letters written by the country people from Bahia, which acted as a more solidary strategy, applied specially in the symmetrical social relation kind.
