摘要:In tourism, the entrepreneurial internationalization is considered a measure of the development of the industry and a key driver of innovation, competitiveness and the enhancement of tourism image. In nautical tourism, research is still scarce to support firms´ internationalization processes and explain their success. This work aims to empirically analyse current conditions and limitations for internationalization of nautical tourism SMEs. In this attempt, a sample of 60 firms from six different islands in the Macaronesia Region was chosen. The study focused on explaining differences among firms from different islands regarding the potentialities of their enterprises and the importance provided to some aspects that can motivate them to launch international actions or exports. Perceptions and opinions of nautical tourism entrepreneurs about potential barriers needed to be faced in an internationalization process were also collected. As a result, we provide up to date information about motivations, conditions and barriers to the internationalization within the segment of nautical tourism SMEs in the Macaronesia Region. The results are of great importance for nautical destinations´ managers and SMEs, in the support of more efficient strategies of internationalization. In this attempt, it is essential that they can recognize the benefits of networking with other firms from near islands, thus contributing to the generation of a trans-regional nautical offer with higher potential to innovation breakthrough.
