摘要：A new interpretation of a passage of Epiphanius’ De mensuris et ponderibus, chapter 9 is proposed. Considering the text resulting from the manuscript tradition and from the corrections made by the editors of Epiphanius, we gain two conclusions: 1) the text of the older codices Vaticani is not correct for the sense; 2) the better text of a group of later codices, that is satisfying for the sense and for the grammar, was misunderstood by some editors, producing a wrong interpretation of the whole passage: the king Ptolemy Philadelphus knew from Demetrius Phalereus that existed a people, ancestor of the Romans, called Latins by the Greeks of the early III century b.C. If this is true, the king may have been in search of the Latins’ books for his library.
其他摘要：Viene proposta una nuova interpretazione della testimonianza di Epifanio relativa alla costituzione da parte del re Tolomeo Filadelfo all’interno
della Biblioteca di Alessandria di un fondo latino. Il passo preso in esame
appartiene al capitolo 9 del De mensuris et ponderibus, trattato risalente al
392 d.C., nel quale Epifanio si occupa delle misure di peso occorrenti nelle
Sacre Scritture. Attraverso da un lato l’esame della tradizione del testo epifaniano e le relative proposte di correzione, dall’altro per mezzo di riscontri
presenti nell’opera del Vescovo di Salamina, nelle sue fonti e provenienti
da altri autori, si conclude come non solo sia estremamente probabile che
il ramo migliore della tradizione manoscritta riporti una lezione erronea,
ma anche come coloro i quali ebbero a disposizione il testo non guasto, lo
interpretassero malamente, revocando in dubbio una circostanza riferita da
Epifanio in modo chiaro, e cioè che Tolomeo Filadelfo avesse intenzione di
costituire un fondo latino all’interno della Biblioteca di Alessandria.
