摘要:Space and Time in the History of Adult Education. The example of Fritz Klatt during the Weimar period Education in one‘s leisure time as relaxation, as a time for contemplation, as a space for freedom and the absence of „alienation“: mostly forgotten today, Fritz Klatt (1888-1945) devoted himself to these small utopian moments not only in his practical work in adult education as a representative of the „youth movement.“ Klatt‘s conceptual thoughts on didactics and the structure of time in adult education courses are in line with the tradition of adult education that emerged during the Weimar period, going far beyond the nimbus of the „founder of leisure pedagogy.“ This article sketches the penchant for experimentation in adult education during the Weimar period and traces Klatt‘s participant-oriented and experience-based didactics. In his practical work, Klatt did not just attempt—sometimes even in the middle of dunes on the Baltic Sea—to change the experiences of space and time prevalent at the time. He also formulated and lived the principles of a participantoriented, democratic adult education that was grounded in reality.
