摘要：Recently, multilingualism and linguistic diversity have become one of the most important educational concerns in Austria. For many Austrian schoolchildren, the official state language German is not their first language and this fact is a challenge for many schools across the country. In this respect, schools in the federal province of Carinthia are of particular interest as Carinthia lies in the trilingual Alps-Adriatic region. Therefore, the current study investigates language diversity at Carinthian schools by asking schoolchildren which foreign languages they would be interested in learning and for what reason. Thereby, this study wants to highlight linguistic plurality in schools and plead for a greater variety of and openness for (foreign) languages taught and spoken at school.
