  • 摘要:Flash flooding is a natural phenomenon which recieves considerable attntion from governments, the professional community, media and general public because of its dramatic short-term effects and devastating consequences. The National Meteorological Organization also closely monitors these events because of their frequent occurrence, and some countries have developed appropriate warning systems. The existing applied predictive flash flood procedures are based on cloudburst forecasts and multiple rainfall-runof and hydrology models. While these models enable as- sessment of whether river flws will reach flood level, they also have a great need for input-data. This article presents research results which highlight the possibility of implementing a very simple but effective warning system based solely on weather radar data without reliance on complex rainfall-runof models. The results proceed from our case study of the rain episode which began on the 24th of June 2009 and culminated in the flash floods which had such disastrous effects on the Jeseník nad Odrou and other communities.
