摘要:Heavy metals in sewage sludge. The aim of this contribution is to briefly characterize, possibilities and restrictions for use in landfarming. Sewage sludge is a complex mixture of the anorganic and the organic solids and colloids, which were divided in the progress of waste water treatment. A direct application of the sludge into the land is considered as the best way to return organic compounds and nutrients into the land. The direct application of the sewage sludge into the land is very low in our country, there is more share of the composted sludge. The main reason why sludge is not applied into the land is due to high concentration of the selected risk elements. We have rules for the application of sewage sludge into the land according the Act No. 188/2003 Coll. about application of the sewage sludge and bottom sediments into the land and about supplement of Act No. 223/2001 Coll. about the waste. Further, we briefly indicated selected characteristics of toxic elements, which are given restrictions for the application of sewage sludge into the land. Methods of removing heavy metals from sludge are shortly described.
