摘要:Despite many criticisms pertaining to the real participation of public within the decision- -making process of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), this process is still the greatest opportunity for the involvement of public deciding on a determined activity in Slovakia. But the public is to be kept informed throughout the process. Than, the public has the opportunity to come forward with information which could make the activity more suited to public need. Public participation is also often seen as a tool for effective EIA quality control When the public is not involved in EIA process, than it is not so easy to know peoples´ concerns and questions related to the environment. After 15 years of EIA implementation in Slovakia those main positive aspects could be declared: EIA is a tool of democratic control; it overtakes conflicts; it ivolves public needs and opinions into the design of an activity. As main negative aspects could be considered: a lack of information given to the public; an inadequate environmental impact report according to public opinions and needs; an unwillingness of proponent; a passivity of the public; a weak participation of NGOs; an indifference towards to proposed activity.
