摘要:Significant political, social, and economic changes and technological progress have aroused an interest in issues relating to life quality in the post-socialist countries. The paper addresses some methodological issues confronting quality of life (QoL) research from several perspectives. The approach applied in this study comprises type of "objective” indicators describing environments people live in. Applying the concept of territorial indicators (employing objective measures derived from analysis of census-based, and other environmental, social and economic data sets), spatial variations in QoL are identified and analysed. Indicators were measured at the district level (72 spatial units) to give a comprehensive picture about quality of life in Slovakia. They are grouped under 6 quality of life dimensions/domains – demographic, education-informatization, security, material comfort and social security, and environmental quality. It was found that in western Slovakia districts Bratislava, Pezinok, Piešťany, Trenčín, and Ilava, and in two central Slovakia districts Martin and Banská Bystrica, the QoL was very high, and in several districts of southeastern, and eastern part of the country (Krupina, Veľký Krtíš, Lučenec, Poltár, Rimavská Sobota, Revúca, Rožňava, Gelnica, Košice-okolie, Trebišov, Kežmarok, Levoča, Sabinov a Sobrance) was very low. Finally, several outputs of research for decision-makers seeking to improve everyday life environment are identified.
