摘要:The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC) was adopted in the UNCED Conference (Rio de Janeiro, 1992). It supposes a global effort in greenhouse gases (GHGs) emission reduction (mainly CO2) at the 1990 reference level at least. The energy sector (including transport, heating, and cooling) contributes by more than two thirds to the total GHGs emission into the atmosphere. Without a serious change in the energy generation and consumption patterns all over the world and without international assistance to developing countries this goal is not possible to meet until 2010. The paper deals with possibilities of the GHGs emission reduction based on the IPCC TAR (2001), the 3rd Slovak National Communication on Climate Change (2001) and other sources (e.g. Conferences of Parties FCCC).
