摘要：This is a research that characterizes the sociodemographic, clinical and treatment adherence profile of people with diabetes mellitus. A descriptive observational study conducted with people with diabetes mellitus, hospitalized in surgical and medical clinic units, in a teaching hospital in southern Brazil. Data collection was performed by bedside nursing consultation and medical records, between August and December 2017. Data were submitted to descriptive statistics. Was 37 participants, 33 (89.2%) type 2 diabetics, with a mean age of 60 years and a mean diagnosis time of 9.6 years; 27 (72.9%) had episodes of hyperglycemia during hospitalization; six (16.2%) insulin dependent; 26 (70.2%) hypertensive. The profile shown by this study is similar to regional and global profiles of people with diabetes and hospitalized. The characteristics related to the age group were highlighted, people over 40 are more affected by the disease, and people with low education. The main comorbidities are cardiovascular diseases and obesity. Knowledge of this profile is potential for contextualized nursing care, especially for health education strategies.
