摘要：Considering the importance of documentary treatment as an alternative to reduce the damage to the documentary collection of the Central Archive of the Federal Institute of Science and Technology (IFS) - Campus Aracaju, an extension project was developed that made it possible to learn in a practical way “Know how to do” through the activities performed by the Library and Documentation Scholarship and Student at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS). For its realization, we use bibliographic research through the literature in the area of Archivology, with the core in the preservation and conservation of documents, as well as, documentary research, since the direct and continuous contact with the documentation enabled the applicability of the documentary treatment. On the other hand, we worked on a case study that brought us information that directly contributed to the research in question and made us observe the relevance of documentary treatment in actions related to documentary identification, culminating in the realization of considerable changes in the preservation of documents and promoting access the information contained.↓Considerando a importância do tratamento documental como uma alternativa para reduzir os danos no acervo documental do Arquivo Central do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia (IFS) – Campus Aracaju, desenvolveu-se um projeto de extensão que possibilitou de maneira prática o aprendizado do “saber fazer” através das atividades desempenhadas pela bolsista e estudante de Biblioteconomia e Documentação da Universidade Federal de Sergipe (UFS). Para a sua realização utilizamos a pesquisa bibliográfica através da literatura da área de Arquivologia, com o cerne na preservação e conservação dos documentos, bem como a pesquisa documental, pois o contato direto e contínuo com a documentação viabilizou a aplicabilidade do tratamento documental. Em contrapartida, trabalhamos o estudo de caso, que nos trouxe informações que contribuíram diretamente com a pesquisa em questão e nos fez observar a relevância do tratamento documental nas ações relativas à identificação documental, culminando com realização de mudanças consideráveis na preservação dos documentos e promovendo o acesso às informações comportadas.
