摘要：This study investigates whether relative per capita CO2 emissions were converging in 39 African countries for the period, 1960∼2010. The univariate Lagrange Multiplier (LM) unit root tests are employed to check for the incidence of stochastic convergence, which is a necessary condition for conditional convergence as proposed in the neoclassical model. We further examine the existence of b-convergence, which is considered as a sufficient requirement for conditional convergence. The empirical findings provide evidence that many African countries' relative per capita CO2 emissions were stochastically converging and also fulfilled the b-convergence criteria. In addition, structural breaks are found in the emissions, and some vital policy implications evolve from the findings.
