摘要:Prospective teachers are provided with general culture, pedagogical formation and special field education in higher education institutions, especially in education faculties. With this training, it is aimed to train fully equipped teachers who can meet the needs of the age. In the Ottoman period, firstly, the teachers who performed the teaching profession were the teachers in the primary schools and the professors in the madrasas. The idea of teacher training, which started with the French revolution, was found in the Ottoman Empire in 1848 with the opening of Darülmuallimîn. This institution continued to exist under different names during the Republican era and in 2014, the mission of educating teachers ended with the transformation of the school into a science high school. Darülmuallimîn was an important place in the history of education in Turkey. It played an important role in teacher training. The main purpose of this study is to determine the contribution of Darülmuallimîn to the training of geography teachers. For this purpose, document analysis method, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. In this research, which focuses on the training of geography teachers, it has been examined what has been done and what success has been achieved in terms of teacher training in general and especially in the training of geography teachers from the 19th century to the present day. In order to make in-depth analysis, geography books and programs, supplementary resources, statistics and other documents were examined. As a result of the findings; It has been determined that Çapa Teacher Training School, known as Darülmuallimî, has trained geography teachers in schools in all regions of the country and played an important role in the preparation of geography textbooks and curricula.
