摘要：This research investigates the effect of engineering design on the development of the engineering habits of mind among eighth grade students in the Sultanate of Oman. The study adopted the semi-experimental research design. The study sample had two experimental groups;the first group (23 students) was enrolled in a special program of engineering design; and the second group was a control group (25 students) which had not participated in any engineering design programs. The quantitative results revealed statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the performance of students of the two groups in identifying problem habits,optimization and development,and system thinking in favour of the experimental group in the scale of the habits of the engineering mind. However, there were no statistically significant differences between the performance of the two groups in the habits of visualizing,creativity in problem solving,and adaptation. Analysis of qualitative data reached similar findings. Taken together,these findings suggest a set of recommendations, including the integration of engineering design into science curricula for contribution to the development of engineering habits of mind. Further surveyed studies can be conducted to discover the most common engineering habits of mind among students of all stages in the study. .
其他摘要：هدفت الدراسة الحالية إلى تقصي أثر التصميم الهندسي في تنمية عادات العقل الهندسية لدى طالبات الصف الثامن األساسي في سلطنة عمان، وتم استخدام المنهج شبه التجريبي، وتكونت عينة الدراسة من ٛٗ طالبة توزعن على مجموعتين، تجريبية ضمت ٖٕ طالبة تم إلحاقهن ببرنامج خاص بالتصميم الهندسي، ومجموعة ضابطة لم يتم اضافة أي برنامج خاص بالتصميم الهندسي لها وتكونت من ٕ٘ طالبة، وكشفت النتائج الكمية عن وجود فروق ذات داللة إحصائية عند مستوى داللة ٘ٓ,ٓ بين متوسطات أداء طالبات المجموعتين الضابطة والتجريبية في عادات التعرف على المشكلة، والتحسين والتطوير، والتفكير المنظومي لصالح المجموعة التجريبية في مقياس عادات العقل الهندسية، بينما لم تظهر فروق دالة إحصائيا بين متوسطات أداء المجموعتين في عادات التصور، واإلبداع في حل المشكالت، والقدرة على التكيف. كما أشارت البيانات النوعية إلى نتائج مشابهة إلى حد كبير، حيث توصلت إلى أن بعض عادات العقل الهندسية تمت تنميتها من خالل برنامج التصميم الهندسي بشكل واضح، كعادة التعرف على المشكلة. وفي ضوء النتائج خلصت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من التوصيات، منها: ضرورة االهتمام بدمج التصميم الهندسي في مناهج العلوم بهدف تنمية عادات العقل الهندسية، فبعض هذه العادات يمكن تنميتها من خالل التحديات الهندسية: كعادة التعرف على المشكلة والتحسين والتطوير، كما اقترحت الدراسة إجراء بحوث مسحية حول أكثر عادات العقل الهندسية األكثر انتشارًا لدى الطلبة.
