Winter-spring program schedules have been announced at Shawnee County North Community Center.

Shawnee North Community Park at 300 N.E. 34rd features a 15,555- square-foot community center, nature trail, soccer field, four- diamond ball complex, swimming pool with 109-foot water slide, playground, sand volleyball courts, shelter house and tennis courts.

Programs are year-round for everyone from preschoolers through senior adults. Room and open-sided shelter house rentals are available for family gatherings, parties, meetings and special events.

Private fitness consultations are available to help guide use of the weight room. A workout program can be individually designed. Appointments last one hour. Consultations are available Monday through Friday through May. Fee $15 for each consultation.

The weight room comes with free weights, a universal gym, air dyne exercise bike, calf machine, recumbent bike, pec machine, treadmill and safety equipment. Program advice is available. Work out at a convenient time. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays through May. Fees: $35 for annual adult pass and $25 for annual high school student pass.

A new SNCC feature is Senior Potluck Luncheons featuring an informative speaker every third Tuesday of the month at the center. The main dish will be provided, just bring a side dish or desert. Call 286-0676 by the Monday before each potluck.

SNCC, which has had years of experience in conducting group outings, can set up day trips by passenger vans to any destination, such as historic tours, shopping trips, dinner theaters, sporting events, holiday events and amusement park. It will do the planning, driving and clean-up. The destination and number of passengers will determine the fee. Call 286-0676 to reserve a trip.

Susan Fowler-Hentzler is the center director. Chad Lady, Mitch Gross and Darlene Streeter are recreation programmers, and Barbara Rumble and Todd Wallingford are recreation leaders. They are available at (785) 286-0676.

3 --- Snow Creek Ski & Board Area. Transportation, sky tickets, rentals and snacks provided. Lunch is on your own. Skies cannot be taken because the van won't have room. Leave SNCC at 10:30 a.m. and return about 9:30 p.m. Fee $75.

3 --- Pitch for adults, seniors. Coffee and cards for 10-point pitch are included in the fee. Hours 1-4 p.m. Fridays through Jan. 31. Fee $2.

6 --- Wheel Throwing . . . Exclusively! Joyce Pardee will teach the basics of wheel throwing. Students will have access to a wheel the entire class period. Twenty-five pounds of clay included in the fee. Additional bags can be bought. The class size is limited to five. Hours 6-8 p.m. Mondays through Jan. 27. Fee $52.

7 --- Little Learners, a preschool program designed for the 3- to 4-year-old who has never had any school experience. Enrollment limited to eight. Children must be completely toilet trained. Hours 10 am. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Feb. 11. Fee of $35 includes snacks.

7 --- Stretch and Tone with instructor Marcy Burns. Improve flexibility and target zone. Hand weights will be used to tone muscles. Hours 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Feb. 13. Fee $30.

7 --- Stretch and Tone in the Morning with instructor Marcy Burns. Hours 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Feb. 13. Fee $30.

7 --- Step Aerobics with Lanell Griffith. Low impact and cardiovascular workout for all levels of fitness. Hours 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Feb. 13. Fee $30.

8 --- Sign Language. Learn the signed vocabulary and many phrases from Erica Price. Hours 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Feb. 12. Fee $35.

8 --- Oil Painting for students at all levels. Supply list or starter kit available by calling 286-0676. Marty Mavrovich, instructor. Hours 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Jan. 29. Fee $28.

8 --- Oil Painting. Mary Lou Gudenkauf will teach basic landscape painting for any skill level. Supply list or starter kit available from SNCC, 286-0676. Hours 1-3 p.m. Wednesdays through Jan. 29. Fee $28.

8 --- Creative Memories. Learn to store keepsakes and photos in a photo-safe album. Learn to crop, lay out, mount and journal in hands- on workshop. Supplies available through Tammie Livingston. Bring 24 photos, along with any related memorabilia. Hours 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fee $10.

8 --- KSU Women's Basketball trip to Lawrence's Allen Field House for adults, seniors. The KSU women, ranked No. 4 nationally, will take on the Jayhawks at 7 p.m. Transportation and tickets are included in the price. Leave SNCC at 4:30 p.m. or the Expocentre at 5 p.m., and return about 11 p.m. Fee $18.

9 --- Water Color 101. Subjects will include wet on wet, mixing colors, drawing, paper stretching, color application and more. Class size limited to eight. Supply list available at the SNCC office, or by calling 286-0676. June Kreiger, instructor. Hours 1-3 p.m. Thursdays through Jan. 30. Fee $28.

9 --- Tae Kwon Do for beginners, ages 6 and 7. Instructor Reggie Boyd, third degree black belt from Sun Hi's Academy, will teach self- defense tactics, help improve coordination, agility and overall physical conditioning. Participants may test to advance belt rank. Uniforms required for testing. Family discounts are available. Hours 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Thursdays through May 29. Fee $25 a month.

9 --- Tae Kwon Do for intermediates, ages 8 through adults. Hours 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays through May 29, Fee $25 a month.

9 --- Preschool Dance, combines rhythm and movement to develop body control, strength, flexibility and overall coordination. Hours 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Thursdays through Feb. 13. Fee $25.

9 --- Preschool Advanced, hours 7:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Feb. 13. Fee $25.

9 --- Dancers Delight for ages 6-11, a blend of tap, jazz and ballet as an introduction to the art of dancing. Hours 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Thursdays through Feb. 13. Fee $25.

9 --- Movie Madness for adults, seniors. Newer box hit videos of family quality will be shown at SNCC. Snacks will be served during the movies. Hours 2-4 p.m. Fee $2.

15 --- Cabela's trip for adults, seniors. Shop in this retail outfitters showroom on a mega 400-acre retail development just off I- 70 and I-435 near the Kansas Speedway. Displays and mounts. Lunch available at the Cabela's cafe on your own. Leave SNCC at 8:30 a.m. or Expocentre at 9 a.m. by vans, and return about 3 p.m. Fee $10.

21 --- Senior Potluck Luncheon, with an informative speaker from the Widowed Persons Service. RSVP on Monday, Jan. 20. Main dish of chili/vegetable soup provided. Bring a side dish or dessert. Hours noon to 1:30 p.m. Fee $2.

25 --- Stamping with Heart. Stamp a gift sack and tissue, with several cards and a candle to tuck inside. Hours 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Fee $15.

27 --- I'm Puzzled! For adults, seniors. Help fit the pieces to various puzzles between 500 and 1,000 pieces on the fourth Monday of each month. Refreshments will be served. Hours. 2-4 p.m. Fee $2.

29 --- Tumbling for beginners, ages 4-6. Basic skills instruction will help develop large muscle coordination and skill. Hours 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays through March 5. Fee $25.

29 --- Tumbling for intermediates, ages 7-9. Hours 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Wednesdays through March 5. Fee $25.

Rossville/Silver Lake (Programs are at the Rossville and Silver Lake community centers, unless otherwise noted.)

January

2 --- Tae Kwon Do at Rossville for beginners from age 6 through adults. A family discount is available at $10 for each additional person. Bruce Corbin will teach self-defense tactics, as well as the art of Tae Kwon Do. He is a third-degree black belt from Sun Yi's Academy in Topeka. Testing takes place there the first Thursday of any month. Hours 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Thursdays through May 29. Fee $20 a month.

2 --- Tae Kwon Do at Rossville for advanced students. Hours 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through May 29. Fee $20 a month.

6 --- Oil Painting at Rossville for a place to paint and receive critiques from experienced painters. Hours 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through May 19. Fee $12 a month.

6 --- Aerobics class at Silver Lake will incorporate step, kickboxing and floor aerobics for a fat burning workout. Each workout will be a little different to add variety. All equipment is provided. Drop-in fee is $3. Hours 6-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through May 28. Fee $20 a month.

21 --- Wilderness Survival at Silver Lake. Instructor Tim Wright will teach how to make survival kits, build shelters start fires, and find food and water. Children age 8 and older may attend with an adult. Hours 6:30 p.m. Fee $5.

22 --- Roly Poly Tumbling for ages 3-5 at Rossville. Children will learn twists, turns, rolls and balance. They will learn motor skills and build muscles, develop coordination and socialize. Hours 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Feb. 26. Fee $30.

22 --- Head-Over-Heels Tumbling for ages 6-9 at Rossville. Ages 6- 9 will learn basic flips, turns, twists and rolls that will enhance muscle coordination and strength. Classes for older students may be offered, if there is sufficient interest. Hours 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays through March 12. Fee $50.
