Fonda asks college for her pounds 7.5m back
KEVIN SMITHJANE FONDA, who donated pounds 7.5 million to a university to fund sex education research, has asked for her money back.
The 65-year-old actress said her stock investments are doing so poorly as the markets plunge that she cannot afford to pay what she pledged, and she needs back the money she has already given.
Two years ago Fonda announced she was to donate the money to Harvard's Graduate School of Education. It was the single largest donation in the school's 83-year history.
Now the school has announced it is abandoning the Fondafunded programme.
She had paid half the pledge but was unable to make the second half, the school said.
Margaret Hass, spokesman for the school, said: "The decisions to discontinue the centre and give back the money was a mutual decision between the school and Jane Fonda."
Some of Fonda's money will still be put to good use, she added.
