New York Task Force on Court Security releases report
Daily Record StaffThe Task Force on Court Security, convened by New York State Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye and Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman in March to conduct-to-bottom analysis of New York's court security procedures after violent incidents and threats against the judiciary erupted in courthouses across the nation, has released its findings and recommendations.
The task force surveyed every facet of safety planning, threat assessment and emergency response, collaborative with related agencies, including the New York State Emergency Management Office, New York State Sheriffs' Association, New York State Association of Police Chiefs, New York City Dept. of Correction and New York City Office of Emergency Management.
The report contains 47 recommendations spanning four critical areas: speed and flexibility of emergency responses; deployment and training of uniformed personnel; strengthening public safety procedures; and the adequacy of the physical infrastructure of courthouses to protect against foreseeable risk.
