New employers, new jobs and economic growth for Allegany County will be the result of this $237,000 federal grant. The first tenant at Barton Business Park, Woodmark Cabinet, has already begun construction of their $12 million facility that will to create up to 500 jobs.

Congressman Roscoe G. Bartlett announcing a grant of $237,000 to the Allegany County Commissioners to construct a sewage treatment plant to serve tenants at the 150-acre Barton Business Park. Bartlett, a Republican, represents all or parts of Allegany, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Harford and Washington counties.

The federal government has a duty to step in and help communities restore important monuments and structures that are damaged in a natural disaster such as a hurricane.

U.S. Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin presenting a ceremonial check Aug. 18 to the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation to restore the memorial commemorating the arrival of Gambian African slaves to the Annapolis City Harbor. It was damaged by Hurricane Isabel. Cardin, a Democrat, represents parts of Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard counties.

This summer, Maryland has sent athletes of all backgrounds to compete in sports ranging from basketball to gymnastics to track and field. Several individuals will also compete in wheelchair-based sports. No matter what sport they are competing in, they will show all of us that barriers can be overcome.

It is important that we provide communities with the resources they need to keep our streets safe.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen announcing the Montgomery County Police Department will receive a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services to hire eight new police officers. Van Hollen, a Democrat, represents parts of Montgomery and Prince George's counties.

We must - shed light on the vain attempts of the Sudanese government to deny the magnitude of the crisis, which has hurt and not helped the effort to remedy this awful situation.

Rep. Congressman Albert Wynn announcing plans to participate in an organized protest in front of the Sudanese embassy in opposition to the genocide which is taking place in the Sudan. He was arrested at the protest for trespassing and released. Wynn, a Democrat, represents parts of Prince George's and Montgomery counties.
