Tony Johnson

For the second consecutive year, the Army Reserve made a clean sweep of the Department of the Army Transportation Corps Reserve Component Regimental Awards. MG Thomas Plewes, chief of the Army Reserve, presented the awards to calendar year 2000 recipients at a ceremony 11 May at U.S. Army Reserve Command Headquarters at Ft. McPherson, Ga.

The non-commissioned officer award went to Sgt 1st Class Norbert Freidhof. A truckmaster with the 425th Transportation Company based in Salina, Kan., Sergeant Freidhof was recognized for his efforts in coordinating the movement of more than 600,000 gallons of fuel during Exercise Polex 2000.

CWO Clare Walters was recognized as the warrant officer of the year. As the senior warrant officer (watercraft) at the 143rd Transportation Command in Orlando, Fla., she received the award for her work in conjunction with Exercises Turbo Patriot and Translots.

The officer of the year award went to 1LT Thomas Sullivan from the 927th Transportation Trailer Transfer Detachment, Ft. Wadsworth, N.Y. He received the award for his leadership and expertise, particularly in support of Exercises Translots and Polex 2000.

The Transportation Corps Reserve Component Regimental Civilian of the Year for 2000 is Sheila Thompson-Douglas. Employed as a traffic management specialist at Ft. Dix, N.J., Ms. Thompson-Douglas was recognized for her work providing unit movement training and the handling of special storage of household goods and privately owned vehicles.

In his comments during the ceremony, General Plewes stated that he was particularly proud to have these awardees as part of the Reserve family and he knew the Transportation Corps was proud to have them as members of their family as well. Recipients will be honored at the Transportation Corps 16th Annual Regimental Review scheduled for July at Ft. Eustis, Va.
