Mercury medical excellence - Letters - Brief Article - Letter to the Editor
Bob GouldLast spring my wife, Florence, and I took a 14-night "Exotic Caribbean Cruise" on Celebrity Cruises' Mercury. During the last week of the cruise, Florence's impaired health mandated she obtain medical attention.
She saw Dr. Carlos Jaramillo, who took an X-ray and diagnosed her as having acute bronchitis. Medication was prescribed for seven days, and eight pulmonary inhalation treatments were administered--twice a day for four days. With the medication and the inhalation treatments, she started to improve after the first day.
Dr. Jaramillo, one of the medical officers who is a pulmonary specialist, immediately diagnosed her problem and was acutely knowledgeable as well as empathetic. The doctor and the nursing staff treated Florence with kindness, and all helped her to get well.
In a time of medical need, we were truly fortunate to be on the Mercury, which has a medical facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Celebrity Cruises is to be commended for the manner it cares for its passengers.
