Rep. Bruce Vento dies at 60
The credit union movement mourns the death of House Banking Committee leader Bruce Vento (D-Minn.). The 12-term Congressman died last week from a rare type of cancer caused by inhaling asbestos fibers.
"During my 10-year service in Congress," said CUNA President & CEO Dan Mica, "it was my great pleasure to work personally with Congressman Vento. Bruce embodied the definitions of integrity and candor. He was a true leader and a real friend."
As Ranking Member of the House Financial Institutions Subcommittee, Vento supported credit union membership; backup liquidity, and special privacy language for credit unions.
