Crashed fire engine bursts into flames
ANDREW JOHNSONFOUR firefighters and a motorist are today recovering after a fire engine ploughed into a row of parked cars and burst into flames.
The fire engine careered out of control, after hitting a Honda Accord which pulled out of a junction, and smashed into five parked cars in Windmill Road, Ealing, on Saturday.
The Honda was dragged along by the fire engine and both caught fire after colliding with one of the parked cars. They came to a halt in a heap of twisted metal, with the Honda crushed between the fire engine and a garden wall.
Both vehicles were ablaze but despite suffering cuts and bruises, the fire crew leapt from their burning cab and went into action to douse the fire and cut free the driver of the Honda.
Colleagues from Ealing fire station
were quickly on the scene and took over from the injured crew, who were taken, along with the motorist, to Ealing general hospital for treatment for cuts and bruises, shock and whiplash.
Two fire engines from Chiswick station attended the original 999 call in Brentford which turned out to be a false alarm.
