Pregnant mother saved after stabbing
GEORGIA WILLIAMSSURGEONS fought for hours to save the lives of a woman and her unborn child after she was stabbed seven times.
The teenager is in intensive care after her baby was successfully delivered by Caesarean section. One stab wound to her neck narrowly missed her jugular vein and as the baby was delivered surgeons battled to control the bleeding.
She is now stable in intensive care under armed police guard and her baby is said to be doing well.
Detectives said only the sheer skill of the medical team managed to save the lives of both and prevented the investigation turning into a murder inquiry. As the woman arrived at hospital her condition worsened rapidly and she was taken to the operating theatre.
Today the woman is under armed police guard at the undisclosed London hospital. Police are not naming her or the hospital for fear of putting her in further danger as they hunt her suspected attacker.
Scotland Yard has named him as unemployed Adrian Hinkson, aged 20. They say he is extremely dangerous and should not be approached.
The teenager had been stabbed repeatedly with a kitchen knife at her flat in Balcombe Street, Marylebone, after she told Hinkson she was ending the relationship.
Hinkson is described as black and about 5ft 6ins. He was last seen wearing a burgundy DKNY logo top, black shell-suit trousers and grey and black Nike trainers.
Police believe he could be in either the Paddington or Forest Gate area.
Detective Constable Douglas Witney said: "Anyone who could do this to a heavily pregnant woman is a danger to the public."
Detective Constable Robin Nelson, leading the investigation, said: "We have genuine concerns for the safety and wellbeing of all the parties involved and would strongly urge this man to come forward immediately and help us with our inquiries."
Doctors believe it will be several weeks before the teenage mother is well enough to go home.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Community Safety Unit at Paddington on 020 7321 8517.
