Try more comforting versions of prayer

We recently printed a version of the prayer, "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep." Many readers wrote to give us different versions that are far more comforting than the one we printed. The first two lines of the following versions are the same:
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
NEW SECOND STANZAS:
1) Love will see me through the night
And wake me in the morning light.
2) Guide me safely through the night
Wake me in the morning light.
3) Angels watch me through the night
And wake me in the morning light.
4) Keep me safe throughout the night
And wake me with the morning light.
Several readers also had a final verse for the version that we printed. The prayer as we printed it was:
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Bud Benson, of Chester, Vt., sent along the following second verse:
Four corners to my bed,
Four angels overhead
One to sing, one to pray
And two to bear my soul away.
Many, many of you sent along this final verse:
If I should live for other days
I pray thee, Lord, to guide my ways.
Finally, an 81-year-old great-granny wrote as a final verse:
If I should live for other days,
I pray the Lord to mend my ways.
