* Download provider/syndicator Gigex (3.5 million uniques in March according to comScore Media Metrix) launched its free broadband service, the HitList, earlier this month, and according to CEO Mark Friedler it contains a number of new promotional opportunities for game companies. The new free download service is pitched to broadband users with Gigex's usual top downloads list as well as a broader selection of new and featured demos. Game marketers can buy ad packages designed to launch new games, become the "Game of the Day" featured across the network or purchase top spots on the HitList. * Here's a chance to establish a better presence in the video rental channel, which is about to get more important to your business. For its July annual convention, the Video Software Dealers Association (www.vsda.org) is looking for exhibitors from the games industry as well as company executives to participate in a planned video game seminar. * The IEMA's (Interactive Entertainment Merchant's Association) summit is a 450 to 500-person invitation-only affair, where game vendors host suites and meeting rooms to meet with retailers regarding the upcoming holiday buying season. In keeping with the increased buzz around upcoming Xbox titles, the IEMA president Hal Halpin announced that this year's keynote address will come from Robbie Bach, Home & Entertainment Division and Chief Xbox Officer, Microsoft.
