Night flight battle goes to Strasbourg court
ASHISH SHARMACAMPAIGNERS against night flights to Heathrow will bring their case to the European Court of Human Rights at Strasbourg today in an attempt to win a seven-year legal battle.
The court will decide whether the west London residents are justified in asking the Government to stop the 15 flights that arrive into Heathrow on a typical night. The court has already accepted that night flights spoil their quality of life.
The Government must now show that the night flights are so vital to the economy that they justify the inconvenience caused to more than a million people.
Thousands of people have donated to a 50,000 fighting fund to bring the test case, which is being backed by local authorities and led by anti-noise group Hacan ClearSkies.
