Still fun after 25 years

Sarah Mason, Central Valley

Animal House - Rated R (1978)

National Lampoon's "Animal House," is the college party movie that started all college party movies.

Girls, togas and an endless supply of alcohol keeps this movie moving. And yet, despite its crude humor, a teen like myself can't help but enjoy this raucous display of immaturity.

The Delta Chi House is the worst fraternity on the Faber College campus. It has the lowest grades and the most parties, so it's no wonder the dean wants to kick every Delta off campus.

And the dean isn't the Deltas' only enemy. The Omega House - powerful, preppy and popular - is trying to do all it can to get the Deltas kicked out. Complicating the mess is the start of school and both fraternities' efforts to brutally disgrace its sophomores inductees.

From the Omega House and its cult-like rituals to the Delta House's sacking of campus, Faber College is under siege. Constant battles between frats and impossible fiascoes makes this film a comedy classic.

The characters are incredible. Actors like John Belushi and Kevin Bacon portray hyperactive, uninhibited college students in a crazed, half-drunken manner.

It's the perfect college movie. No one is worrying about graduating. They're just causing trouble.

So if you're looking for something that offers a little moral guidance, turn away from this film. It's for people who want to - at least occasionally - have fun.

Grade: A
