Cyclists go round the bend
CHRIS MURPHYIT'S hard keeping on the straight and narrow if you are a cyclist in a Kent town where contractors have painted what may be the country's most wiggly cycle lane.
Workers painted around lamp posts, litter bins and benches while making the 11,000 bike lane between Beach Street and Barton's Point at Sheerness.
Anyone sitting on a bench who stretches their legs will end up with their feet in the middle of the bike track.
The design has been criticised by residents of the seaside town.
Monica Webb was amazed when she spotted the wiggly lines while walking her dog.
"It is absolutely ridiculous," she said. "I can't believe they painted it like this."
Another local, Alan Clark, said: "Don King once said, 'Only in America.' I say, 'Only in Sheppey.'" A spokesman for Swale council said: "It was a breakdown in communication between ourselves and the contractors. It will not be staying as it is."
