Community service

NEIL SIMPSON

IN the US thousands of investors have been given the chance to map out the future of their favourite financial websites by signing up as community hosts - and the same is happening here. Community hosts are volunteers who take a regular look at the message boards of their chosen sites, welcome new users, encourage ongoing debates and keep an eye on the content of postings. They don't need to be experts - just enthusiasts who are keen to take part in and guide as many message board debates as possible.

www.thisismoney.co.uk, the financial website of the Evening Standard, the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, is looking for community hosts for its own message boards, soon to be launched.

The first boards will be designed for people with strong opinions on most areas of personal finance, as well as for investors following UK-quoted companies.

The role is not designed to be onerous - hosts share the load by agreeing to look at the boards at different times. A few hours a week is normally sufficient. So if you're passionate about finance and investing - and want more people to share their thoughts, experiences and tips on the net - you would make a great host.

We'll speak to every volunteer before the boards go live, explaining how the roles work and providing full, written information. Hosts can contact the editors and writers direct for help, advice or feedback at any time.
