Housing prisoners at the Shawnee County Jail may be expensive, but it is cheaper than keeping them in a hospital.
Shawnee County commissioners on Thursday will consider a claim by Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center for medical bills incurred by three criminal suspects taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to a memorandum to commissioners from assistant county counselor Thuy Dao, the bills and court costs for the three totaled $70,477. The figure includes court costs because Stormont-Vail filed a limited action suit against the county for the medical bills.
Commissioners will consider settling the claim when they meet at 9 a.m. Thursday in room B-11 at the courthouse.
Commissioners also will:
- Reconsider a request to purchase an incentive program to reduce overtime costs at the Consolidated Emergency Communications Center.
- Consider an appointment to the Ambulance Advisory Board.
- Consider a resolution authorizing the sale of general obligation bonds and temporary notes.
- Hear a briefing on Kansas Single Family Mortgage Revenue Bonds and consider an application for a bond allocation from the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing.
- Consider recommendations of the Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board regarding addition allocation of funds by the Juvenile Justice Authority for prevention programs.
- Consider the purchase of work station panels in the District Court Clerk's office.
- Consider a grant application for the Senior Companion Program.
