BOXING: Great Scott
DAVID PHILLIPSSCOTT Harrison delighted a sell-out crowd at Glasgow's Braehead Arena last night by retaining his WBO featherweight title with a unanimous points victory over Wayne McCullough
Harrison, who was bag-piped into the ring, turned in an awesome display to wreck McCullough's hopes of a fairytale comeback after being suspended following irregularities in a brain scan.
The 32-year-old Irishman was in trouble repeatedly but stubbornly refused to be stopped.
Afterwards a delighted Harrison said: "I hit him with a lot of good shots and on a couple of occasions I thought the referee might step in, but all credit to him for keeping going. He showed a lot of guts.
"I was pleased with my performance and I'd like to thank everyone who turned out to support me. The atmosphere was incredible."
McCullough said: "He is very, very strong and that caused me a lot of problems. He hurt me early on and I can't have any complaints. Good luck to him.
Earlier Edinburgh's Alex Arthur stretched his unbeaten record to 15 fights with a sixth round demolition of South African Patrick Malinga
Arthur is determined to dazzle at the highest level and although this win gained him his third intercontinental title he is more concerned with securing a Lonsdale Belt outright.
