FOOTBALL: Kelly in fans' plea
ROBERT REIDFORMER St Pat's striker Liam Kelly claims he was forced out of Richmond Park.
Inchicore supporters felt betrayed after he agreed a three-season contract with arch-rivals Shamrock Rovers.
But Kelly, 27, said: "I did not ask to leave. It wasn't my decision, and I want the fans to know that. I had a great rapport with them and I don't want anything to spoil that.
"Eamonn Collins [the manager] rang me one Sunday night and said the club had agreed a deal with Rovers.
"He said I was welcome to stay, but made it clear that if I did I would be holding the club back as they were going full-time, and I didn't want to. I felt that I wasn't given much choice but to go."
Kelly will find out next month whether the St Pat's fans have forgiven him - for that's when Rovers play the Inchicoremen at Richmond Park in the eircom League.
