BA in row over 'slur' on Africans
KUNBI JEGEDEA FORMAL complaint has been lodged with the Commission for Racial Equality against British Airways after it blocked telephone credit card bookings for trips to parts of West Africa, writes Kunbi Jegede.
Anyone wishing to travel to Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana is being forced to pay in person at a travel agent.
Lewisham Race Equality Council said the policy singled out West Africans as "corrupt, fraudulent and dishonest".
A spokeswoman for BA, however, said the step was taken on the advice of leading credit card companies due to fraud.
The airline claims that it is not discriminating against West Africans because the policy applies to all of its customers booking flights to that part of the world.
