Your Say: SICK STATE OF AFFAIRS
D Thomas LostockTHE Department of Health says newly-licensed drugs are the main reason for the growth in prescription expenditure.
But when it comes to unwarranted and unjustified prescription expenditure, we must look at the contentious issue of GPs being forced to issue repeat prescriptions on a strict monthly basis. Even patients who must take medication for life are being refused prescriptions on a three-monthly, six-monthly or annual basis.
The government's ridiculous excuse for this is that if they were allowed to give more than a month's supply at a time, it would cause patients to overdose.
