Ninja goes to Europe
PAUL CLARKFOR more than a decade, Ninja Tune - a record label and collective of DJs, MCs, live acts, artists and lighting specialists has had a regal status in the fickle London club scene. Now the Ninja circus is off to the Continent.
Hip hop, beats, breaks, soundtracks and jazz meet eccentricity and innovation, often blending, chopping and scratching on six decks, triggering samples and interactive light shows in the mix. DJs such as Luke Vibert, Ollie Teeba, J Swinscoe and head honchos Coldcut are also full-on live acts, giving the nights the added dimension of bonafide "uprock 'n' roll". The Paul Clark club environment is enhanced with Xensuality - gratifying senses with installations, film shows and lighting. In the past they've created exploding decks, interactive DJ/audience consoles and showered punters with "lurve" in a Flirtation Tank. Europe may not welcome all of our exports, but the Ninja club experience comes stamped with the .ber-cool Hoxton hallmark.
