Put safety first, Smith tells NISO
TOM RYANDEFENCE Minister, Michael Smith said yesterday that one of the many challenges facing Irish organisations is the provision of a high standard of health and safety and preventing accidents in the workplace.
"Apart from the obvious moral and legal reasons for doing this, there are clear economic reasons why prevention is a key element of managing a business successfully," he said at the presentation of the National Irish Safety Organisation's safety awards.
He added: "The best occupational health and safety practices are not those which are forced on people but rather are the best practices in which all members of staff can participate and will work throughout the whole organisation."
