'Sixth Sense' remains atop box office

LOS ANGELES -- The ghost thriller "The Sixth Sense" set a box office record for the Labor Day weekend by taking in $29.3 million, extending the summer movie season.
The movie has spent five straight weekends in first place and has done $176.2 million in ticket sales through Monday, according to industry estimates.
The top 7 movies at North American theaters Friday through Monday, followed by distributing studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Tuesday by Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. and ACNielsen EDI Inc.:
1. "The Sixth Sense," Disney, $29.3 million, 2,775 locations, $10,548 average, $176.2 million, five weeks.
2. "Runaway Bride," Paramount, $8.6 million, 3,015 locations, $2,856 average, $135.5 million, six weeks.
3. "The 13th Warrior," Disney, $8.5 million, 2,313 locations, $3,665 average, $22.4 million, two weeks.
4. "Bowfinger," Universal, $7.4 million, 2,702 locations, $2,735 average, $55.9 million, four weeks.
5. "The Thomas Crown Affair," MGM, $6.1 million, 1,977 locations, $3,074 average, $57.7 million, five weeks.
6. "Chill Factor," Warner Bros., $5.8 million, 2,558 locations, $2,272 average, $6.7 million, one week.
7. "Mickey Blue Eyes," Warner Bros., $5.5 million, 2,230 locations, $2,473 average, $27.3 million, three weeks.
