FIDDLE CONTEST WINNERS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED
Compiled by Maisy FernandezThere was some serious fiddlin' goin' on the end of March at Trent Elementary during the 28th Northwest Regional Fiddle Contest.
Inland Northwest winners were:
Small Fry Division (8 and under): Jed Bulla, Northport, Wash., first place; Michelle Willcox, Spokane, third; Caleb Melkonian, Post Falls, fourth; and Laurel Johnson, Spokane, fifth.
Junior-Junior Division (12 and under): Zachary Stewart, Spokane, first; and Kathy Bula, Spokane, fifth.
Young Adult Division (18-36 years): Amber Adams, Spokane, second.
Senior-Senior Division (70-plus years): Marge McFaul, Rathdrum, Idaho, first; Clair Lundin, Spokane, second; and Doris Howard, Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, third.
Championship Division (any age): Tony Ludiker, Spokane, first; Jenny Anne Bulla, Northport, second; and Joe Smart, Pasco, third.
Oldest Fiddler: Ed Senna, Spokane, 91 years.
Youngest Fiddler: Bonnie Teich, Spokane, 5 years.
Jennifer L. Tesch won the University of Idaho's top senior recognition, the Theophillus Award.
It's presented to a graduating senior who demonstrates excellence in academics and leadership, and has an outstanding record of community service.
Tesch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norm Tesch, Veradale, also received the Outstanding Senior Award.
Jason D. Kindred, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Kindred, Spokane, won UI's Guy Wicks Award; Zahrah Sheikh, daughter of Ismat Sheikh, Moscow, also won a Wicks Award along with the George E. Dafoe Memorial Award, the Frank W. Childs IV Memorial Award and was named an outstanding senior woman.
