Frankenstein breathes new life into city centre bar
THE Pitcher And Piano in Glasgow's West George Street has been bought by Saltire Taverns for (pounds) 2million. It will be rebranded as a Frankenstein theme bar in the spring.
Billy Lowe, Saltire's managing director, told the Sunday Herald: "It is an important acquisition for us and it establishes Saltire Taverns as a pan-Scottish operation in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen."
Lowe, who owns Espionage in the northeast and the successful Frankenstein, in Edinburgh, imported the concept after a trip to New York. Saltire Taverns specialises in highly theme-branded bars. He is looking to expand into England.
Lowe set up Thistle Inns with Kenny Waugh and grew a chain of bars in the East of Scotland before selling to Scottish and Newcastle for (pounds) 20m. The Pitcher And Piano was sold by Wolverhampton and Dudley brewery.
