AREA STUDENTS RECEIVE TARGET SCHOLARSHIPS

Six Inland Northwest students have received $1,000 Target All-Around Scholarships:

Marissa Sprank, Central Valley High School; James Stokoe, University High School; Joni Miller, Coeur d'Alene High School; Sara Hamilton, East Valley High School; Eileen Newman, Newport High School; and M. Cynthia Davidson, Lake City High School.

The recipients where chosen for their commitment to community volunteer service, family involvement and education. Nathan Jeffries, a senior at Mead High School, received the National Marketing Education Honor Award. The award, given annually by DECA, the national association of marketing students, recognizes achievements in academics, leadership, DECA activities and community and school service. He is the son of Mike and Karolyn Jeffries. Sharon Heydet, a Deer Park High School teacher, has achieved Certified Journalism Educator status from the Journalism Education Association. She was honored at the association's convention in San Francisco on Saturday. The journalism certification recognizes teachers who meet national standards of preparation to teach high school journalism classes and advise student publications. Kyle Robert Kassa recently received his Eagle Scout Award during an Eagle Court of Honor at the Inland Grange, Elk. His Eagle project was to make and install 75 uniform, easyto-read, street address signs to help emergency response personnel locate residences quickly. Kassa is a junior at Riverside High School, where he is an honor student and a member of the school's tennis team. Cynthia Danis, vice president of activities for Delta Epsilon Chi, Spokane Community College chapter, was named Student of the Year at the group's state Career Development Conference. Chapter members recommended Danis receive the award for her dedication to school, the club and job. She is the daughter of Rene and Patricia Danis, Spokane.
