Star chance to raise 100,000
DAVID HAYESEITHER Gucci is paying him too much or British designer Alexander McQueen is desperate to get into movies. For a walk-on part in a new, unnamed, Working Title film McQueen -Lee to his friends - offered 5,000 at a charity auction.
Ian Schrager's Evening At The Sanderson last night - in aid of Sargent Cancer Care for Children - was full of surprises. Guests including Jade Jagger, Sharleen Spiteri and host Lady Helen Taylor heard offers of up to 9,000 for the chance to be in the movies, and there was also a bid of 9,000 to have dinner at home for eight put together by a top chef.
The evening raised more than 100,000 and it was easy to see why given the amount of paparazzi-fodder there - and despite the absence of Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie, who canoodled at last year's event.
But if the auction proved too rich for some, a dabble on the lucky dip was the alternative. For 50 you could pick up a "surprise" pressie - which more than likely turned out to be a bottle of beer signed by Brit artist Tracey Emin.
For that price, thankfully, the bottle came unopened.
